Next stop is the
North Carolina Monument. It was designed by the same artist that did
Mt. Rushmore. When I first came here in 1984, this monument grabbed my
spirit and it still does. It is located just north of the Virginia
monument. The five Tarheels look as if they were just ordered forward
to charge across the bloody battlefield. Again, this is the area of
the main force that formed Pickett's
Charge. Many North Carolinians died on July 3, 1863. This is a must
stop for anyone who visits this field.
