The 44th New York's Monument is spectacular. You can walk up to the top of this Castle-like building and get a great view of the whole field. Many of the 44th's men died in the fierce fighting here.

The 16th of Michigan was placed on the opposite flank from the 20th Maine. They occupied a high shelf of rock ledges. Col. Vincent knew that a frontal assault on them was impossible. They fought the Texas regiments that stormed Little Round Top. |
