Stonewall's Wounding

---

The sad wounding of a great man

May 2, 1863 (approx. 9:30pm)

. At about 9:30pm Stonewall Jackson and his staff was riding between the lines. He was thinking about a possible night attack. It was dark and the Confederate picketts were very gun happy. (I would be too).

They heard the sound of the horses in Stonewall's group. Thinking it was Union soldiers attacking they fired into the darkness. Stonewall was hit three times. In the right hand, left forearm, and left upper arm.

He was shot by friendly fire. Stonewall was seriously hurt and needed help.
